Datenschutzerklärung von Buck Fifty

Dies ist eine Übersetzung zur Orientierung. Die englische Version ist rechtlich bindend.
This privacy policy explains what happens to your data when you use Buck Fifty, the browser extension for Costco members published by Revolt Bots LLC (“we”, “us”). It covers the extension only. Our website has its own privacy policy, and use of the extension is governed by our Terms of Service.
Buck Fifty is independent software. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Costco Wholesale Corporation.
The short version
- Your receipts are stored in your browser, in the Chrome profile where the extension is installed. We run no server for Buck Fifty and never receive your receipts.
- There are no analytics, tracking, advertising or error-reporting services in the extension.
- Buck Fifty is free. There is no account with us, no purchase and no license key.
- Data leaves your computer in two cases only: to Costco, to read your own receipts, and to your own Google Drive, if you choose to connect it. Google Drive backup is not available in the current version; it returns once Google has verified it. Both are described below.
1. What is stored in your browser
The extension keeps the following in its own database (IndexedDB) and extension storage in your Chrome profile:
- your Costco receipts (warehouse, gas and online): warehouse name and city, dates, totals, tax, payment type, the last four digits of the payment card, your membership number and receipt barcodes
- line items: description, item number, price, quantity and category
- item categories, price history, insights and the product-page addresses of Costco products you have viewed
- smaller settings: sync progress, a copy of Costco’s public sale list for a few hours, your monthly budget, the numbers you enter for the Executive estimate, the status you set on price adjustment claims, reminder settings and your theme choice
Your Costco sign-in token is kept only in the browser’s session storage, which is held in memory and cleared when the browser closes. It is never saved to the database, exported or sent anywhere except to Costco.
2. Costco
Costco’s receipts service only answers requests made from Costco’s own Orders page, so Buck Fifty reads your receipts while you are signed in to costco.com or costco.ca in your browser. To do that it:
- uses the sign-in token and client id that Costco’s own page already holds, and sends them only to Costco’s receipts service (ecom-api.costco.com), with requests for your receipts by date range or receipt number;
- copies the receipt responses that Costco’s own Orders page receives, and nothing else from that page’s traffic;
- reads the item number and address of Costco product pages you visit, so that receipt items can link to their product pages;
- reads Costco’s public Member-Only Warehouse Savings page from a costco.com tab you already have open, to find sale items. The sale list is compared with your purchases on your computer; nothing about your purchases is sent by that check.
The extension reads nothing from other websites. It does not read your browsing history, cookies, form fields or clipboard (it only writes to the clipboard when you click “Copy Claim List”), and it never asks for your location.
When the extension contacts Costco, Costco receives your request as it would from its own website, under Costco’s privacy policy.
Live product previews are off by default. If you turn them on, the extension fetches a Costco product page without cookies, and your browser loads the product image from the address that page names. The image is not stored.
3. Google Drive backup (not available yet, off until you connect it)
Google Drive backup is switched off in the current version of Buck Fifty while Google verifies it, so nothing is sent to Google Drive today. When it returns, it works as described here.
If you connect Google Drive, you sign in with your Google account and allow Buck Fifty access with the drive.file permission only. That lets it see and change only the files it created; it cannot see anything else in your Drive.
What it saves to a folder named “Buck Fifty Receipts” in your own Drive:
- a readable PDF or image of each receipt (or both, as you choose), filed in sub-folders by the layout you choose;
- a small data file per receipt in a “_restore data” folder, so your receipts can be restored on another computer;
- if you turn on the Google Sheet option, one Sheet of your line items per year in a “Spreadsheets” folder.
Your membership number and card last four digits are masked in these files unless you turn on the option to include them. Files go directly from your browser to Google; they do not pass through any server of ours, and we cannot see them.
You can back up and restore by hand or turn on automatic backups. You can disconnect at any time: disconnecting revokes the extension’s access, and the files already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
Google user data. Buck Fifty uses the data it receives from Google APIs only to save, list and restore your own backup files in your Drive, which is a feature you turn on. It does not use that data for advertising, does not sell it, does not transfer it to anyone, and no person reads it. Buck Fifty’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Tips: Ko-fi
Every feature of Buck Fifty is free. The extension shows an optional “Buy me a coffee” link to our page on Ko-fi, which opens in a new tab. A tip unlocks nothing. The extension sends nothing to Ko-fi; if you choose to tip, Ko-fi handles the payment under its own privacy policy and passes on to us what you give it to share, such as your name, email address and any message, which we use only to thank you and answer you.
5. On-device AI
Where Chrome’s built-in Gemini Nano model is available, items are sorted into categories and sale picks are chosen on your computer; otherwise simple keyword rules are used. Nothing is sent to an AI service by the extension. Chrome itself may download the model from Google, under Google’s terms.
6. Price adjustments and reminders
The price adjustment finder compares your recent purchases with each other and with Costco’s sale list, on your computer. If you turn on claim reminders, the extension asks your browser for permission to show notifications and shows one when a price adjustment is about to expire. Nothing is sent anywhere for this.
7. Exports
CSV, JSON and backup files are files you create and save where you choose. Your membership number and card last four digits are masked in them unless you choose to include them before exporting. After that, you decide where those files are stored or shared.
8. What we do not do
- We do not run a server for Buck Fifty, and we do not receive, store, sell or share your receipts or purchase history.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising or error-reporting services in the extension.
- We do not load or run code from the internet in the extension.
- We do not sell personal information.
9. Data retention
- In your browser: until you delete it, restore a backup over it, or remove the extension.
- Costco sign-in token: until the browser closes.
- In your Google Drive: until you delete the files.
10. Deleting your data
- Settings → Clear Local Data deletes the extension’s database, its local storage and the cached Costco sign-in state for this browser profile.
- Removing the extension deletes its browser storage.
- Disconnecting Google Drive revokes access. Files in your Drive are yours; delete them in Drive.
Because we hold no copy of your receipts, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct or delete personal information about you. Your receipts are under your control in your browser and your Drive, as described above. For anything else, contact us through the support form.
12. Children
Buck Fifty is meant for adult Costco members and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us through the support form and we will address it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the extension changes. We will post the new version here with a new “last updated” date and, for material changes, show a notice in the extension.
